In-person voting turnout has been low in Fairfax County for the dual primary elections, according to Office of Elections data.
Democratic and Republican primaries for the congressional midterms are being held Tuesday (Aug. 4). Fairfax County has a Democratic primary in the 8th Congressional District, and Republican primaries include U.S. Senate and the 10th Congressional District.
In the 8th Congressional District Democratic primary, 0.38% of voters have cast ballots as of noon. That’s in addition to 4.28% who voted early of the county’s 247,883 registered voters in the 8th Congressional District.
The rest of the county in the 10th and 11th Congressional Districts does not have Democratic primaries.
As for the Republican primaries, 0.39% of the county’s 817,586 registered voters have cast ballots, and another 0.80% voted early.
In the Democratic race, incumbent Rep. Don Beyer (D-8) is facing former Alexandria City Council Member Mo Seifeldein, fired State Department worker Michael Duffin, veteran and former CIA officer Adam Dunigan and military family advocate Lorena Bruner. The Democratic primary winner will face Republican Tony Sabio in the Nov. 3 general election.
In the Republican Senate primary, candidates are retired Army Maj. Gen. Bert Mizusawa, former federal employee and tech executive Kim Farington and veteran and former CIA officer David Williams. The winner will take on Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), who is running for a fifth term as Virginia’s senior senator.
In the 10th Congressional District, former Pentagon official and Air Force veteran Dave Beckwith; Anthony Suttles, who has experience in national security and economics; and Fairfax County teacher Julie Perry are facing off. The winner will go against Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-10) in the general election.
Polling places in all of Fairfax County’s 265 precincts will remain open until 7 p.m. Unofficial election results for the Democratic and Republican primaries will be tallied after 7 p.m. on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
