A pedestrian was taken to a hospital earlier this afternoon (Tuesday) following a crash near the Vienna Community Center.
Police officers and a medic were dispatched to Park Street SE at Cherry Street SE at around 1:22 p.m. after a witness called 911 for what was initially described as a pedestrian hit-and-run crash with an injury, according to the Town of Vienna Police Department (VPD) and scanner traffic.
The VPD warned community members that there would be “a heavy police presence” in the area between Locust Street SE and Moore Avenue SE due to “an active police investigation.”
“Please avoid the area and use alternate routes while officers conduct their investigation,” the department said on social media, offering few details beyond that the investigation was “related to an isolated incident” and that there was no apparent threat to the general community.

According to VPD spokesperson Cherylyn Thompson, “many” officers responded to the crash, which required Park Street to be shut down immediately so police could investigate and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department could have “a safe path” to provide assistance.
Shortly after the social media post went out, the driver of a “small-sized passenger vehicle” involved in the crash — likely an SUV — reportedly returned to the scene.
“Officers will now be treating the incident as a traffic accident with injury,” Thompson told FFXnow. “The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
Park Street ultimately reopened by 1:50 p.m. after police wound down their increased presence in the area.
