Blue Bottle Coffee has arrived at Tysons Corner Center.
The Oakland, California-based chain will open its first cafe in Virginia at the D.C. region’s largest mall at 9:30 a.m. today (Thursday), offering complimentary giveaways to the first 150 customers who stop by.
The Tysons location (1961 Chain Bridge Road, Suite KSK36L) takes the form of a smaller-format kiosk designed to serve customers “efficiently in a busy setting,” as a Blue Bottle spokesperson previously told FFXnow.
The cafe doesn’t have any dedicated seating, but it’s located in Fashion Court, a common area with some tables and chairs on the mall’s first floor near Gap.
“Though compact in footprint, the kiosk reflects our East-meets-West sensibility and the same commitment to quality shared by our cafes around the world — an easy stop for a beautifully crafted drink amid hundreds of premium stores,” Blue Bottle Coffee said in a media alert announcing the launch.
Started in 2002 by James Freeman, a clarinetist who began roasting his own coffee beans at his Oakland apartment and selling them at farmers’ markets, Blue Bottle now operates dozens of locations across the U.S. and east Asia, including four outposts in D.C. Its drinks and blends can also be purchased at many local grocery stores.
Though it’s not a full cafe, the Tysons kiosk will still serve a variety of iced and hot espresso beverages as well as “a selection of culinary offerings,” according to the media alert. Signature menu items include a New Orleans-style iced coffee, craft matcha and a Kyoto-style vanilla bean shakerato.
Orders can be placed in person or online for pick-up at the kiosk, which will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day except on Sundays, when operations will start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 8 p.m.
The unveiling of Blue Bottle Coffee’s kiosk comes on the heels of modular sofa brand 7th Avenue opening a showroom at Tysons Corner Center last week. The mall will also welcome a “Bluey”-themed experience and the slime museum Sloomoo Institute next month.
In other changes, the Indian restaurant Dhoom and its fast-casual counter Naan & Beyond have officially closed after just over two years of business, making way for the regional chain Milk & Honey to bring its Southern cuisine to Tysons.
