A faith-based nonprofit focusing on services for at-risk youths and their families has expanded its services in Fairfax County through a new office.
Youth for Tomorrow (YFT), a Prince William County-based organization that provides services for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing emotional, behavioral, or family challenges, opened a counseling center at 12011 Route 50, Suite 504, on July 1.
The new Fairfax Counseling Center, located near Fair Oaks Mall, is expected to serve around 900 to 1,000 individuals and family members during its first year.
While YFT had offered services in Springfield for six years, the nonprofit ultimately wanted a more central and accessible location for Fairfax County families, Carl Street, the group’s vice president and chief clinical officer for outpatient behavioral services, told FFXnow over email.
“The move to Fair Oaks gives us a larger and more accessible space that allows us to expand counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, and families, while continuing to offer the flexibility of telehealth,” Street said.
Finding a space with enough room to grow that also has access to other nearby health care and community resources, such as Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and other medical offices and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB), was a key part of the nearly year-long planning process.
“A major consideration was the need to provide more opportunities for in-person, face-to-face counseling, particularly for children and families,” Street said. “We wanted a location with enough space and an environment designed to effectively serve children ages 5–12 and their families, while also providing counseling services for adolescents and adults.”
Four therapists currently offer counseling services at the Fair Oaks location, with an additional bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking play therapist scheduled to start work this fall. A sixth therapist is expected to join the team at the beginning of 2027.
Across the organization, YFT has approximately 56 therapists, along with other support staff offering counseling and related services for people experiencing issues such as anxiety, depression, panic disorders, trauma and post-traumatic stress, adjustment disorders, anger, suicidal thoughts and self-harm, attention-deficit disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, domestic violence and abuse-related concerns.
YFT says a key part of its mission is to reduce barriers to care and make counseling accessible to people who may otherwise have difficulty obtaining services.
“The opening of the Fair Oaks location reflects that mission by providing a convenient community-based location where children, adolescents, adults, and families can access professional counseling in person or through telehealth, with medication management available through psychiatric nurse practitioners when clinically appropriate,” Street said.
