The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating the deaths of a husband and wife who were each found with gunshot wounds to the upper body in a Centreville home today (Sep. 9).
Officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Sharps Drive after a family member living in the same residence called 911 to report a shooting around 5:30 p.m.
The adult man and woman were both pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was also found in the house.
The couple’s children were at home at the time of the shooting, but were not physically harmed, police said.
“There is definitely no threat to the general public at this time,” officer Ingrid Palencia with the FCPD’s public affairs office said during a press conference this evening.
The FCPD said that it preliminarily believes all individuals “are accounted for,” and no one is in custody at this time. Police will continue to investigate the shooting and have a presence in the neighborhood throughout the evening, Palencia added.
“They’re canvassing the area, they’re looking into the family, they’re processing evidence and things like that,” she said.
The children, whose ages were not disclosed, are staying with family at this time, and are being supported by the department’s Victim Services division. Further details were not available at this time.
