Springfield man dies at 93 after crash on Fairfax County Parkway in Burke

A 93-year-old Springfield man has died from the injuries he sustained in a crash on Fairfax County Parkway in Burke Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4).

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Gerald Brook was riding in the front passenger seat of a 2010 Nissan Altima that was heading northbound on the parkway, approaching the Burke Lake Road intersection, when the car collided with a 2017 Toyota 4Runner that was traveling eastbound on Burke Lake Road.

Police responded to the scene around 2:13 p.m.

Brook was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, then his condition was determined to be non-life-threatening shortly after arrival. However, Brook died the next day due to injuries sustained in the crash.

“Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the Toyota,” the FCPD said yesterday (Tuesday) in a press release. “Speed is under investigation for the driver of the Nissan. ”

Police said that while speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the Toyota, speed is still under investigation for the driver of the Nissan. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to call the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit at (703) 280-0543.

Brook is the third person to die as a result of a traffic crash in Fairfax County over the past weekend. A driver was killed Saturday (Oct. 3) after hydroplaning on I-495 near the Springfield Mixing Bowl, and police are still searching for the driver behind a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield Sunday night.
