Man charged with burglarizing multiple medical offices in Fairfax County

A Woodbridge man has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing at least three different medical offices across Fairfax County in recent months.

The Fairfax County Police Department first began investigating a reported commercial burglary in the 8200 block of Willow Oaks Corporate Drive in Merrifield on May 19, according to a press release.

“Surveillance footage showed the suspect entering the closed business and stealing cameras, camera equipment, and cash,” the FCPD said.

Subsequent burglaries were reported at medical offices in the 1300 block of Beverly Road in McLean on Sept. 3 and in the 13100 block of Route 50 in Fair Oaks on Sept. 11.

In all three cases, police say surveillance cameras filmed an individual “dressed in professional attire while wearing gloves and a medical-style mask.”

Video shared by the FCPD of the May 19 incident shows a man walking into a room dressed in a white dress shirt under a black formal vest with a tie, a red cap and blue medical gloves. In the two September incidents, the man was seen in a blazer, white dress shirt, gloves and a blue bucket hat, police said.

“During the investigation, detectives located stolen camera equipment that had been pawned” from the Merrifield office and identified a 67-year-old man from Woodbridge as the suspect, the FCPD said.

The man was arrested by detectives on Sept. 29 and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he remains in custody following a bond hearing on Oct. 1, according to online court records.

The man has been charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of petit larceny, two counts of destroying property valued at less than $1,000, and stealing property with the intent to sell.

“Detectives continue to investigate [the man’s] possible involvement in additional burglaries in Fairfax County,” the FCPD said.

The department says any information about the reported burglaries or others that may be related can be shared with Criminal Investigation Division detectives at 703-256-8035. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Solvers of Fairfax County.

The man is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County General District Court for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28.
