Reston-based company Comstock Companies has changed the colors of Reston Station in an effort to stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
The building, designed by world-renowned architect Helmut Jahn, has been illuminated with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Spokesperson for the developer told Reston Now that the move was an effort to stand in solidarity with the country. The trapezoidal building, located at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza, is anchored by Google.
Other buildings throughout the region and the world have taken similar steps. The Kennedy Center in the District, for example, lit its white marble facade earlier this month. In Alexandria, the George Washington National Masonic Memorial and City Hall are also aglow with blue and yellow.
And other monuments around the world are lit up with the colors too, including the Hernando de Soto bridge in Memphis, The Met Opera, San Francisco City Hall and the Eiffel Tower.
Russia initiated an invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, escalating the Russo-Ukrainian War that started in 2014. A third round of talks between the two countries ended with little progress yesterday (Monday).
This is not the first time the building has used its light-changing capabilities.
The building adopted the colors of Google prior to the tech giant’s official announcement that it had signed a lease with Comstock.
