For months, several businesses at North Point Village Center have been struck by overnight burglaries.

The series of burglaries at Bobby’s Bagel Cafe, Gregorio’s Trattoria, Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar between September and March led police to launch a stakeout to catch the possible suspect.

Those efforts paid off Friday night (April 16) after a detective spotted the alleged suspect near the shopping center trespassing on private property.

The Fairfax County Police Department announced this morning (Tuesday) that a 22-year-old Reston man was charged with possession of burglarious tools, three counts of burglary, two counts of destruction of property, and one count of trespassing.

According to police, the man attempted to escape into a wooded area when detectives spotted him. After canvassing the area, he was arrested on Reston Parkway. Police also found property stolen from the burglaries at a nearby home.

Capt. Frederick Chambers, commander of the the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, said the police department was able to identify a pattern in the case and work with businesses to identify the suspect.

“A heads-up detective spotted the suspect who fled on foot. Detectives and officers worked quickly, and after a search of the area, an alert patrol officer took the man into custody,” Chambers said. “This is a wonderful example of our investigatory team working side by side with our community members and businesses to improve public safety.”

It’s unclear if the suspect may have been involved in other burglaries.

Several businesses were burglarized at the center over the last few months, according to the police department.

Someone damaged the windows of Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar overnight on Sept. 4 and Oct. 5. Merchandise and was taken from Gregorio’s Trattoria and Bobby’s Bagel Café  on March 30. At an unknown date, property was taken from Glory Days Grill.
