Completion of Route 7 Widening Celebrated — Local and state officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday (Wednesday) to celebrate the completion of “driver, bicycle and pedestrian improvements along seven miles of Route 7 (Leesburg Pike)…The project widened Route 7 from four to six lanes between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive” and added a shared-use trail. Tree Falls on Car in Lake Barcroft — “It’s been more than a week, yet still, giant chunks of tree trunk remain embedded in a car in Lake Barcroft. The tree fell, according to neighbors, around 6 p.m. last Tuesday.” The vehicle’s owner “told WUSA9 that first responders arrived quickly, and luckily no one was injured, but several vehicles were destroyed.” [WUSA9]

Revegetation Planned for Area Cleared by Beltway Project — “The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), along with project partner, Transurban, and contractor, Lane Construction, will hold drop-in public hours on May 23 and May 30 to provide information and seek feedback from the public on the 495 NEXT Revegetation Conceptual Plan.” [VDOT]

Latin American Bar Opens in Annandale — “Rumba Bar & Grill, now open in central Annandale, offers a place to hang with a Latin American flavor. It’s located at 7220 Columbia Pike in the space formerly occupied by Da-In Karaoke & Bar.” The food menu is expected to expand next month with “a mix of Salvadoran, Peruvian, and Mexican food.” [Annandale Today]

Reston IT Company Acquired — “Abt Global, a multinational tech-focused consulting and research firm based in Rockville, has acquired TSPi, a Reston IT company that builds low- to no-code software tools for federal agencies…TSPi will remain an independent division of Abt and it will keep its Reston headquarters and other offices in the U.S. where Abt has none.” [Washington Business Journal]

New Mount Vernon Trail Bridge Opens — “Bridge 23 along the Mount Vernon Trail (MVT) was officially reopened May 19 at a ribbon-cutting ceremony…The ceremony was capped off with a walk across the approximately 1,070-foot-long bridge featuring a bench and viewing platform.” The bridge was one of four along the trail slated for reconstruction. Reston Principal Honored by Virginia PTA — “Principal Shane Wolfe of Buzz Aldrin Elementary School in Reston received the VA PTA Principal Partner of the Year award during the group’s annual meeting on May 18 in Richmond. Earlier in May, the Fairfax County Council recognized Wolfe for his collaborative approach that increased parent engagement and formed a stronger bond within the school community.” [Patch]

Spring Art Exhibits on Display in McLean — “Three ‘Spring Solo Exhibitions’ now on display at McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) feature modified books with sculptural elements, architectural designs bursting with translucent color and oil paintings that combine talismans with cloudy skies and multi-colored patterns.” [Gazette Leader]
