
A woman died this morning (Saturday) after being hit by a driver in the Great Falls area of Leesburg Pike (Route 7).
Emergency medical services and police were dispatched to Leesburg Pike at Downey Drive around 3:44 a.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian with an injury, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene around 3:52 a.m.
Per the scanner, police initially conducted a search for the vehicle, which was described as possibly a dark-colored SUV or sedan with “heavy front-end damage.” However, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a tweet at 4:53 a.m. that the driver was “on the scene.”
Westbound Leesburg Pike was closed at Downey Drive while Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives conducted an investigation. All lanes reopened by 8:50 a.m.
