Different portions of McLean’s popular Clemyjontri Park will close in phases next week to allow for repairs.

Contractors hired by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) will arrive at the park on Monday (Sept. 30) to conduct maintenance on the playground equipment. Work is expected to wrap up next Friday (Oct. 4), if the weather cooperates.

“The project will include a number of routine maintenance activities and repairs to ensure the continued safety and long-term enjoyment of one of the Park Authority’s most popular parks,” the FCPA said in a press release issued yesterday.

Located at 6317 Georgetown Pike, Clemyjontri’s playground is designed to include kids of all abilities, including those who use wheelchairs, walkers and braces, and those with sensory or developmental disabilities. The park also has a carousel and picnic pavilion.

Details of the upcoming maintenance projects are limited, since the full scope will depend on what the contractor finds once they get on site.

“Some potential work will be dependent upon routine inspections of the equipment,” FCPA spokesperson Benjamin Boxer said. “In addition to the inspections, we will be making adjustments and minor repairs as needed to extend the life of the playground equipment.”

The maintenance will be done in phases, starting with the area closest to the parking lot and rotating counterclockwise. The overall park will remain open, but each “zone” undergoing repairs will close until the work there finishes, according to the press release.

Over the course of the week, work will be accomplished in a phased approach to ensure that the majority of park features will remain open during the week and minimize the inconvenience for park patrons. Park features have been separated into four “zones” (as pictured). The work will cycle through the park, one zone at a time, beginning with zone 1 on Sept. 30. As the repairs in each zone are completed, they will be reopened, and crews will move to the next zone. All areas without active work will remain open until their turn in the cycle.
