A new barbecue restaurant appears to be coming soon to Herndon.
A site plan for Herndon Parkway Center indicates that a “Kanoon Restaurant” will open in the space at 1106 Herndon Parkway that was vacated last year by The Lobster, a Thai street food restaurant.
The Burn reports that the newcomer will be Kanoon Smokehouse, a New Jersey-based restaurant that serves American barbecue with a “Middle Eastern twist,” according to its website.
Claiming to be the first “halal smokehouse” in New Jersey, Kanoon launched its flagship restaurant in Clifton, New Jersey, in 2023 before expanding to a second location in North Brunswick. The business derives its name from an Arabic word for an old oven or grill where meat is cooked and smoked, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
A Connecticut location opened its doors in September, and the business lists two New York spots, along with Herndon, as “coming soon” on its Instagram profile. Kanoon did not return several requests for comment from FFXnow by press time.
Permits to modify the existing restaurant kitchen’s cookline have been submitted to the Town of Herndon’s building inspections department, but the town hasn’t received any other plans, a spokesperson told FFXnow.
Kanoon’s typical menu features a mix of smoked and grilled meat dishes, seafood and burgers. It serves hot and cold beverages but no alcohol, and desserts include baklava, homemade cupcakes and rice pudding.
Current dining options at Herndon Parkway Center include the Indian restaurant Jodhpur, Wiseguy Pizza and Chipotle. The commercial center also includes a standalone Starbucks.
