A Fairfax man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he was driving as a rideshare worker.

Officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Strong Court in the Fair Ridge neighborhood at 11:47 p.m. on Aug. 10 after receiving a report of a sexual assault, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

“The victim reported that she was sexually assaulted by a driver while inside a rideshare vehicle,” the FCPD said in a press release. “The victim was able to flee and call the police. The suspect fled the area before police arrived.”

Police say they have identified the driver as 47-year-old Sayed Cheshty. He was arrested on Friday, Nov. 15 and charged with object sexual penetration.

He’s currently in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, but a bond hearing is scheduled for 8:31 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) in Fairfax County General District Court. A preliminary hearing has been set for 2 p.m. on March 4, 2025.

Though the FCPD doesn’t mention which rideshare service was used in this case, prominent companies like Uber and Lyft have faced hundreds of lawsuits over the years arguing that they’ve failed to protect passengers and drivers from sexual assault.
