NOW: Vehicle catches fire after crashing outside McLean Starbucks, road blocked

Old Dominion Drive was blocked for hours after an SUV crashed into a power pole and caught fire in McLean this afternoon (Thursday).

Police and firefighters responded to the Chesterbrook Shopping Center around 5 p.m. for the crash, which happened near the Starbucks store and brought down power lines, according to scanner traffic.

“It’s going to be a vehicle into a light pole,” the police dispatcher said. “Everybody’s out, but the vehicle is on fire. Fire department’s going to be en route. Vehicle is a gray SUV.”

The crash brought down multiple utility lines, blocking Old Dominion Drive. Dominion Energy had to address the downed lines before firefighters could extinguish the vehicle.

Scanner traffic suggested that medics evaluated one person. Ultimately, no injuries were reported from the single-vehicle crash, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

“The roadway is currently still blocked” at Kirby Drive, the FCPD told FFXnow at 8:15 p.m.
