Trash bags and dirt bikes were among the “highlights” of the Town of Vienna Police Department’s past week.

Vienna police cited an 83-year-old man from Dunn Loring for illegal dumping on Wednesday (April 3) after they identified him as the source of a “suspicious black trash bag” dropped off at the police station (215 Center Street South) the previous morning, according to a recap of the week from March 28 through April 3.

The trash-filled bag was discovered outside the secured gates at the police station’s Locust Street entrance around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, police said. An accompanying note addressed to the Town of Vienna reportedly complained about tenants at the Vienna Park Apartments on Cedar Lane SE.

“The [police station] security cameras showed the driver of a vehicle making a U-turn in front of the gates, removing a trash bag from his vehicle, and placing it at the gates,” the VPD said in the recap.

Officers were able to identify the driver and went to his home on Acorn Circle, a side street across from the Vienna Park Apartments.

“The man told the officers he would continue these actions until the Town addressed his concerns with the apartment tenants,” police said.

An officer obtained a summons charging the man with illegal dumping, which is a misdemeanor in Virginia punishable by up to 12 months in jail, a fine of $500 to $2,500 or at least 10 hours of litter cleanup as community service.

The man was released from custody “on his signature,” according to the VPD.

Speeding dirt bike riders reported on Maple Avenue

Vienna police officers also responded last week to a pair of dirt bike riders allegedly driving recklessly and “punching” car mirrors on Maple Avenue.

Suspicious Event 25-02963
300 Block Maple Avenue, East
April 3 6:35 p.m.
A citizen reported two drivers on dirt bikes traveling westbound on Maple Avenue at high speeds, driving between vehicles, and punching side-view mirrors of cars as they passed. There was no damage caused to the citizen’s vehicle and he did not wish to pursue charges. Neither of the vehicles had license plates. The drivers had left the area before officers arrived.

Other notable incidents include a reported burglary at a house on Hunter Court SW that occurred sometime between Feb. 28 and March 26.

“A citizen reported that someone entered her deceased brother’s home, stole several items, and left the home in disarray,” the VPD said. There did not appear to be any forced entry into the residence.”

However, the woman who reported the burglary told the investigating detective on March 31 “that she did not wish to pursue the investigation any further.”

Officers were called to Pazzo Pomodoro (118 Branch Road SE) at 6:53 p.m. on March 27 for a report of “an intoxicated man who was acting disorderly and kicking the door to the restaurant.”

The 45-year-old man from Ashburn was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with being drunk in public, police said.
