A woman from Marshall, Virginia, has been charged with reckless driving after allegedly crashing into a Virginia State trooper on I-66 this morning (Friday).

The trooper was responding to another crash involving a tractor trailer and a “passenger vehicle” when the incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. on eastbound I-66 near the Capital Beltway (I-495) in Dunn Loring, according to the state police.

“This crash was obstructing the left lane of the main lanes of Interstate 66 and the right lane of the Express Lanes on Interstate 66,” the VSP said of the original crash, which didn’t result in any injuries.

The driver of a Lexus SUV then crashed into the trooper’s vehicle while he was sitting inside in the right toll lane. The trooper had turned his emergency lights on, police said.

The trooper was transported to an area hospital with injuries described as “minor” by police, though he was released by this afternoon. The driver and a passenger in the SUV were also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

“The driver of the SUV, Candace C. Skinker, of Marshall, Va., has been charged with reckless driving,” the VSP said, adding that both crashes “remain under investigation.”
