Workers at Springfield Plaza store prevent robbery by disarming suspect

Employees of a Springfield Plaza store stifled an attempted armed robbery last night (Monday) after disarming a would-be perpetrator of his gun, police said.

Officers responded to the Cricket Wireless store, located at 6330 Springfield Plaza in the northeast corner of the shopping center, around 8 p.m. after receiving a report of the attempted heist, according to scanner traffic.

A caller reported that a male individual had entered the store and brandished a firearm before attempting to restrain four employees, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Despite the man’s best efforts, the employees were able to break free. An altercation then ensued, with the suspect eventually being disarmed by the employees.

One worker suffered a minor injury during the scuffle and was taken to a hospital for treatment. That was the lone reported injury from the incident.

The suspect then fled the scene, dropping items as he ran, police told FFXnow. As a result, nothing was ultimately reported stolen.

Responding officers, who were aided by a helicopter, did not locate the suspect after the incident.

“Detectives responded to the scene, and the investigation remains active,” the FCPD said.
