Moo Thru targets summer opening for next ice cream shop in Burke

Moo Thru, a Virginia-based ice cream franchise, is working to open its next ice cream shop in Burke.

Franchise owner Morgan Johnson confirmed to FFXnow that the shop plans to open this summer at Burke Town Center (6025H Burke Centre Parkway). The timing is dependent on permit approvals and construction.

Moo Thru, a franchise with seven Virginia locations, focuses on ice cream with ingredients sourced from dairy farmers. The menu includes hard and soft-serve ice cream flavors, plus shakes, malts, banana splits and sundaes.

This will be Moo Thru’s second Fairfax County location after a franchise opened in Herndon in 2024.

Johnson and her husband came across Moo Thru when they were traveling around the original Remington location. It quickly became their favorite.

“It’s absolutely delicious, but what truly won us over was the farm-to-table (or cow-to-cone, if you will) story behind it,” Johnson said. “That really resonated with us.”

The family has lived in Burke for more than 20 years, and the new Moo Thru location will be minutes from their house.

“From the very beginning, we felt this area was special,” Johnson said. “Burke has such a strong sense of community, and Moo Thru feels like a natural fit here, especially with our farmers’ market, walking trails, green spaces, and other well-loved family-owned businesses.”

Unlike Moo Thru’s flagship location in Remington, the Burke location won’t have a drive-thru. However, Johnson said it will have ample room to become a destination for more than a quick stop for ice cream.

“We think our neighbors will be excited about a gathering place where families and friends can get together and enjoy everyday milestones together — whether it’s celebrating a birthday, a great report card, a chorus concert, or a little league win,” Johnson said.
