An assistant track coach at Hayfield Secondary School will be dismissed after he was arrested today (Thursday) on child pornography charges, police say.
Richard Huerta, 28, of Kingstowne came to the attention of the Fairfax County Police Department when its Child Exploitation Unit detectives received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating he “may be in possession” of child sexual abuse material, according to a press release.
“Through their investigation, detectives executed multiple search warrants and uncovered electronic evidence of CSAM associated with Huerta,” the FCPD said.
Police provided few details about the tip or what type of material was found, but Huerta has now been charged with 10 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material.
According to the FCPD, he’s being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. Information about the court case doesn’t appear to be available yet in online records.
Fairfax County Public Schools hired Huerta as an assistant coach for Hayfield’s varsity indoor track team in August 2025, the FCPD says.
“FCPS is in the process of terminating his contract and he will not be returning to the school,” the police department said.
