A McLean resident was hospitalized as a result of a fire that broke out at their home in the Langley High School area early this morning (Friday).

Firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of Turkey Run Road for the house fire at around 12:49 a.m., according to scanner traffic.

“Caller is advising they heard an explosion,” a dispatcher said on the scanner. “They’re on the second floor. They have mobility issues and cannot get outside, also advising they have a dog on the premises.”

Upon arriving, crews saw smoke issuing from the front of the “large multi-story single-family home” and located the fire in the garage area, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.

“Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack while conducting searches throughout the home,” the department said. “Crews successfully assisted an occupant and a dog from the home prior to conditions deteriorating further.”

The resident was taken to a hospital with injuries described by the FCFRD as non-life-threatening.

“Due to the size of the home and fire conditions, a second alarm was requested to support suppression, search, and ventilation operations,” the FCFRD said, adding that firefighters were ultimately able to mostly contain the blaze to the garage “with limited extension into the home.”

No firefighter injuries were reported. An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway.
