Fans of Weird Brothers Coffee can now enjoy its signature drinks, snacks and merchandise in the Town of Vienna.
The Herndon-based coffee roaster opened the doors of its first franchise location at 106 Lawyers Road in the Windover Square shopping strip on Monday (Aug. 10), inviting a new community to share its “weird and wonderful vibes.”
“The first day of business went swimmingly well!” Weird Brothers owner Paul Olsen said of the soft opening. “The Vienna team is settling in nicely and doing a fantastic job knocking out the drinks and sandwiches and making new connections with the local customers. Customer feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Vienna coffeehouse is serving the same beverages found at Weird Brothers’ roasting factory in Herndon’s Sunset Business Park and its shops in Worldgate Centre and Leesburg, including hot, iced and blended coffee and tea as well as a “Mischief Menu” of unique dessert and seasonal specials.
Like its Worldgate Centre and Leesburg predecessors, Weird Brothers in Vienna boasts a kitchen that allows it to serve breakfast sandwiches, burritos and bowls, paninis and parfaits, along with a variety of pastries baked by Sterling’s Baguette Republic.
Customers can also purchase fresh-roasted coffee beans, including a blend developed in collaboration with fellow local business Bunnyman Brewing.
T-shirts, mugs, hats and other branded merch further fill out shelves decked out with Star Wars figurines on one side of the approximately 1,600-square-foot store.
Olsen attributes the successful launch to the “intensive training” that the Vienna team went through as Weird Brothers’ first franchisee.
Voted earlier this year as Northern Virginia’s best coffeehouse by Northern Virginia Magazine readers, Weird Brothers Coffee was conceived a decade ago as a mobile coffee bar by Paul Olsen and his late brother Kenny. Its first permanent location opened at Sunset Business Park in May 2017 and was followed by the expansions to Worldgate Centre and Leesburg.
More recently, the company began looking for operators to run locations in Virginia and Maryland with the goal of extending its reach throughout the D.C. region. Olsen previously told FFXnow that the first franchisees were drawn to Vienna for its “vibrant culture” and saw the Windover Square space vacated by 29th Parallel Coffee as too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Once the Vienna team settles in, Weird Brothers hopes to coordinate a grand opening with the Town of Vienna, though an exact date remains to be determined.
The coffeehouse’s mobile ordering app will also roll out to the new location “in a couple of weeks,” Olsen says.
