An Alexandria woman has been charged with assault after allegedly hitting two children at the Tysons daycare center where she was teaching.
Detectives went to the FAZ Creative Education Learning Center at 1776 Old Meadow Road last Thursday (Aug. 27) after receiving a report of an assault, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
“Detectives determined that Wafa Abdelhafiz Abdalla, 61, of Alexandria, while employed as a teacher at the daycare, forcefully pushed a 2-year-old boy to the floor and struck another 2-year-old boy in the head with an open hand,” the FCPD said in a press release on Saturday (Aug. 29).
Abdalla has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault and battery. As of press time, the charges haven’t appeared in online court records yet, but the FCPD says she was released from custody with a summons.
FFXnow reached out to FAZ for comment. The center was established in 1999 and offers educational programs for infants, toddlers, and preschool and elementary children up to 8 years old. It also has an Arabic language and culture program for kids aged 5 to 12.
“Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim receives appropriate resources and assistance,” the FCPD said.
According to the department, its detectives are looking to talk to anyone who might have more information about this case or other potentially related incidents. The Major Crimes Bureau can be contacted at 703-246-7800, option 4.
Abdalla was charged just a couple of weeks after police announced that a teacher at a different daycare — Bright Horizons Daycare in Reston — was facing an assault charge for allegedly pulling a child’s hair and pushing them to the ground.
