Fairfax County’s local news, in about five minutes, every weekday afternoon.
Fairfax County is the largest jurisdiction in Virginia — more than a million people spread across Tysons, Reston, Herndon, Vienna, McLean, Annandale, Springfield, Centreville and dozens of communities in between. Even people who follow the news closely tend to miss what’s happening a few exits away.
The FFXnow Daily Update is the countywide catch-up. Each episode runs 4-5 minutes and covers what our newsroom reported over the past day: Board of Supervisors and FCPS decisions, development and transportation projects, restaurant and business news, public safety and the local stories that don’t make the regional outlets.
Free, short and published every weekday.

What to expect
About 4-5 minutes. A stretch of the Toll Road. A Silver Line ride. A walk around Lake Anne or the Tysons Corner parking deck hunt.
New episodes every weekday. Published shortly after 4 p.m., alongside our free afternoon newsletter.
The whole county. Countywide coverage plus our hyperlocal reporting in Reston and Tysons — including the parts of Fairfax you don’t drive through every day.
Free for everyone. No membership, no paywall, no signup.
How it’s made
The Daily Update is narrated by virtual hosts. That’s on purpose: FFXnow runs on a small editorial staff covering more than a million residents, and automating the narration means a daily episode never comes at the expense of reporting. The stories are researched, reported and written by FFXnow journalists. Only the voice is automated.
Tell us what you think
We’re still refining the show. If something sounds off, or there’s a part of the county you’d like to hear more about, send us a note. Reader feedback is how this gets better.
