The recently removed leader of a national coalition of health care purchasers is facing an assortment of criminal charges after allegedly taking obscene videos of teens at Tysons stores.
Officers were called to the 1900 block of Chain Bridge Road at around 12:30 p.m. on both Aug. 16 and 17 for reports of unlawful filming, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
“Detectives learned that an unknown man used his cellphone to unlawfully record three victims, two 18-year-old women and a 16-year-old girl while visiting multiple stores in the Tysons area,” the FCPD said today (Sept. 15) in a press release.
According to police, one of the victims and a family member “confronted” the man, but he left before officers arrived.
Tysons Urban Team detectives identified former National Alliance of Healthcare Purchasers Coalition President and CEO Shawn Gremminger as the suspect using automated license plate reader data, the FCPD said.
The 44-year-old resident of the West Falls Church area was arrested on Aug. 28 at Reagan National Airport with the help of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department.
Now in custody without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, Gremminger has been charged with 30 counts of child pornography possession, two counts of unlawful creation of an image of another, and one count each of unlawful creation of an image of a juvenile and production of child pornography.
“During a search of Gremminger’s electronic devices, detectives discovered evidence indicating there may be additional victims,” the FCPD said. “Detectives are asking anyone with information about these incidents or who believes they may have been a victim to contact our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 3.”
According to online records, Gremminger is scheduled to appear next in Fairfax County General District Court on Oct. 21 for an adjudicatory hearing on the two nonconsensual filming charges, which are misdemeanors. The county’s juvenile court will hold a preliminary hearing on the felony unlawful filming of a minor and production of child porn charges on Nov. 20.
A preliminary hearing on the child pornography possession charges is scheduled in the district court on Dec. 2.
The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchasers Coalition, a nonprofit that advocates for employers and other health insurance buyers, announced on Sept. 9 that its chief of staff, Jenny Goins, would serve as an interim CEO and president, starting Sept. 4.
“The organization will not comment on the serious personal legal matters of the former president and CEO that are unrelated to the National Alliance, its work, members, funders, finances, programs or operations,” the coalition said in a statement. “Members and partners can expect programs, services and coalition support to continue without interruption.”
