The Virginia State Police is investigating an apparent shooting that took place on I-66 last night (Tuesday) near the Nutley Street interchange outside Vienna.
First responders with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were sent at around 8:15 p.m. to a reported shooting in the highway’s eastbound lanes near the Nutley Street ramp, according to scanner traffic.
“A Toyota Rav4 was travelling eastbound on Interstate 66 when the occupants heard a loud bang, and a passenger in the rear of the car reported injuries,” the VSP said in a press release this morning (Wednesday). “The injured passenger was transported to an area hospital; the injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening.”
There were three other people in the vehicle who were not injured. Police say a “gunshot impact” was found “in the left rear window of the vehicle.”
A VSP spokesperson said no other details about the incident are currently available, including whether the person injured in the shooting was an adult or child.
“The incident remains under investigation at this time,” the VSP said.
