Wrong-Way Crash on I-495 Express Lanes Kills Driver of Stolen Maserati: Virginia State Police are asking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a stolen Maserati who died Feb. 24 after striking a Jersey wall in the Vienna area.

The motorist was driving a black 2018 Maserati Quattroporte sedan at high speed in the wrong direction in the northbound I-495 Express Lanes when the luxury vehicle struck the cement barrier head-on at Exit 49 for Interstate 66, state police said.

The crash impact immediately caused the vehicle to catch fire. Authorities took the body of the driver, who did not survive the crash, to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for autopsy, examination and positive identification.

The Maserati was reported stolen in Prince George’s County. The driver was the sole occupant when the crash occurred, police said.

State police continue to investigate the accident. Police ask anyone who may have seen the Maserati driving south in the northbound lanes before the crash, or who may have information on who the driver may have been, to call (703) 803-0026 or send an e-mail to questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
