The 22101 ZIP code in McLean tied for tops across the Mid-Atlantic region for most home sales in the “ultra-luxury” category during the second quarter of 2024, according to new data.
With 46 transactions in the highest 1 percent, price-wise, of sales in the Washington metro area, 22101 came out on top in the local area and was tied with the 08540 ZIP code in Princeton, N.J., for overall top-tier sales in the April-May-June period.
Details were reported in the quarterly Luxury Market Report, issued by Bright MLS, the region’s multiple-listing service.
Rounding out the top five were ZIP codes 20007 (District of Columbia) with 30 ultra-luxury transactions. 19103 (Philadelphia) with 30 and 19355 (Malvern, Pa.) with 23.
Outside of McLean’s 22101, no other Northern Virginia ZIP code was represented in the top 10, although Annapolis (ZIPs 221401 and 21403), Bethesda (20817) and Chevy Chase (20815) were.
For the quarter, Hume, a locality in Fauquier County, had the priciest sale across the Mid-Altantic, with a home listed by Washington Fine Properties going to closing at $18.8 million. But the next three highest priced transactions were all in McLean’s 22101:
• A home at 903 Turkey Run Road listed by Washington Fine Properties sold for $10 million.
• A home at 7012 Holyrood Drive in McLean listed by Keller Williams Realty sold for $9.1 million.
• A home at 6622 Malta Lane listed by Washington Fine Properties sold for $9 million.
Rounding out the top five was a home in Northwest Washington, listed by TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, which sold for $8.6 million.
When it comes to “luxury” homes – which for Bright MLS means the top 5 percent, price-wise, in each jurisdiction and one step below ultra-luxury category – McLean 22101 led the pack for the second quarter at 75, compared to 65 for Princeton’s 08540.
Bright MLS divides its Mid-Atlantic catchment area into 10 distinct geographic areas spanning all of the District of Columbia and Delaware and parts of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. There is a different sales-price threshold to be considered luxury or ultra-luxury in each coverage area.
