Students at Westminster School Return to Expanded Offerings

By Brian Trompeter

The Westminster School will look sharp and have some new offerings when students return to class Sept. 3.

The school, located at 3819 Gallows Road in Annandale, this fall will have about 230 students ranging from pre-kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) to eighth grade, who in turn will be instructed by 39 teachers.

School officials have burnished the facility over the summer, with all classrooms being repainted. The school also has a new “makerspace” where students can collaborate on projects, and a new school store, as well.

Westminster School is in the final phases of obtaining authority from Fairfax County to install a new synthetic-turf field, and will build a new playground plaza in fall 2025.

“Our hopes and goals right now center on making our ‘field of dreams’ a reality,” said Nancy Schuler, who was a member of Westminster’s Class of 1979 and now is its head of school. “We are excited to take our campus to another level by developing the 2 acres of land we purchased years ago for this purpose. Our students will enjoy a top-notch outdoor facility that will open up all kinds of possibilities for their school experience.”

Westminster during the last school year added Spanish and social-emotional learning programs.

“The Westminster School program is unique, as it is an advanced classical curriculum, enhanced by the arts,” Schuler said.

“Westminster is known for its stellar drama program and emphasis on character,” she added. “We are proud to have one of the most diverse student bodies of all the private schools in the metropolitan area.”
