Home remodeling firm moves HQ to Vienna, replacing longstanding beauty spa

A Northern Virginia business that specializes in remodeling houses is putting the finishing touches on a new home of its own.

In a milestone that coincides with its 25th year in business, MOSS Building and Design will celebrate the opening of a new Vienna Architectural Design Center at 108 Church Street NE with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 22 from 5-6 p.m.

The building will serve as the company’s new headquarters, replacing a larger space that it had occupied for years in Chantilly’s Lafayette Business Center (4125 Lafayette Center Drive, Suite 100).

“Our move to Vienna represents an exciting new chapter for MOSS,” MOSS CEO Paul DesRoches II said in a press release. “We wanted a space that feels more intimate, inspiring and reflective of the design experience we create for our clients. This new studio gives us the opportunity to bring our team, our clients and our design process together in a more personal way.”

Originally constructed in 1922, per Fairfax County property records, the two-story building on Church Street has previously hosted personal services retailers.

Most recently, Diamond Spa had called it home since October 2007, according to a Better Business Bureau profile. The beauty spa quietly closed earlier this year after owner James S. Moon sold the property to MOSS for $1.68 million on Feb. 13, county property records show.

Founded in July 2001, MOSS Building and Design was started by Jason Hampel, a former ExxonMobil employee, with his father, Pete Hampel, after his grandfather, Paul “Moss” Hampel, advised him to consider what he was working hard for before passing away.

Building on skills that Pete Hampel had picked up after remodeling his own home, the father and son expanded the business over the years to serve homeowners throughout Northern Virginia, D.C. and Montgomery County in Maryland. MOSS offers design and construction services, with an emphasis on additions and kitchen, basement and bathroom renovations.

As noted in the Town of Vienna’s press release, MOSS recently won a bronze award from Qualified Remodeler’s 2026 Master Design Awards for a home addition project in Great Falls, and it ranked no. 121 on the magazine’s list of the top 500 remodeling companies in the U.S.

With the relocation of its headquarters from Chantilly to Vienna, the firm will bring approximately 50 employees to the town, according to Town of Vienna Director of Economic Development Nicole Toulouse.

“This kind of investment strengthens our commercial districts and reinforces Vienna as a place where businesses can grow and thrive,” Toulouse said.

Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert added that she was “thrilled to welcome MOSS Building & Design’s new headquarters to Vienna as they celebrate 25 years in business.”

“Their move into an iconic building in the heart of Church Street is an exciting investment in our community,” she said. “We look forward to having them as part of Vienna for years to come.”
