FCPD: Herndon man charged after trying to sell drugs for a gun

A Herndon man was recently arrested on drug and weapons charges after allegedly attempting to sell fentanyl to an undercover police detective, the Fairfax County Police Department announced this morning (Thursday).

The 19-year-old has been charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II narcotics, possession of a firearm while distributing schedule I/II narcotics, possession of an auto sear, and carrying a loaded firearm in certain localities.

Under Virginia law, an “auto sear” is defined as a “device, other than a trigger activator, designed for use in converting a semi-automatic firearm to shoot automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.”

The FCPD said that after its Violent Crimes Suppression Unit began investigating suspected narcotics and firearms distribution, the suspect agreed to sell 50 suspected fentanyl pills to an undercover detective in exchange for a gun.

Investigators attempted to take the man into custody during a meeting in Chantilly on Oct. 10, but he fled in a vehicle, police said. He was still apprehended shortly afterwards.

“A search of his vehicle revealed approximately 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills and a firearm equipped with an extended magazine and an auto sear,” the FCPD said in a press release.

He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on a $5,000 secured bond.

Detectives are asking anyone with more information about the case to call the FCPD’s Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau at (703) 246-7800.

The man is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County General District Court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 19, according to court records.
