Come From Away, written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, is a critically acclaimed musical featuring a poignantly relevant script and a deeply moving score. The show’s global presence resonates across all audiences as an uplifting reminder of humanity’s ability to come together, no matter what the circumstances.
Based on real events of September 11th, 2001, Come From Away tells the story in which 38 planes, carrying thousands of passengers from across the globe, were diverted to the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland. The locals of the small town played host to the world as they fed, housed, and comforted the stranded passengers for over four days. Inundated by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander persevered, demonstrating the power of kindness.

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in 2011, Sankoff and Hein traveled to Gander to interview residents and returning passengers. They turned hundreds of distinct accounts into a celebrated musical. For this 25th anniversary year of September 11th, South Lakes Theatre Arts is honored to bring these accounts to life.
