A popular D.C. area pizzeria plans to open a new location in Tysons this fall.

Stellina Pizzeria will take over a 4,100-square-foot space on the ground floor of Capital One’s headquarters at 1610 Capital One Drive, the business announced today (Thursday).

Fairfax County fire department kept busy in 2021, led by Merrifield engine

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department saw a significant increase in activity in 2021 compared to the previous year.

The honor for busiest company of the year went to Engine 430 based out of Merrifield Station 30, the department shared last week.

Trucker Convoys Could Affect Capital Beltway — Traffic on the Capital Beltway could become clogged in the coming weeks as truck drivers plan to descend on D.C. to protest Covid-related health rules. One convoy reportedly left Scranton, Pennsylvania, yesterday (Wednesday), but the organizer has backed off plans to shut down the Beltway. [NBC4]

Police Union Unhappy with Proposed Budget — The Virginia Police Benevolent Association Fairfax County Chapter president criticized the proposed county budget for not giving officers 15% raises, saying this could worsen vacancies. Board Chairman Jeff McKay countered that the plan presented on Tuesday (Feb. 22) increases the average police pay by 8%. [ABC7]

Buoyed by cicada sundae buzz, Toby’s Ice Cream plans spring opening for Vienna shop

After going viral last summer for offering cicada-themed sundaes, Arlington-based Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream has parlayed that success into a new shop in Vienna, its first expansion.

Signs that Toby’s was adding a location in the Cedar Park Shopping Center (280 Cedar Lane SE) were reported in December, but the business didn’t confirm the news until Feb. 9.

A second attempt to recall a Fairfax County School Board member has ground to a halt.

Springfield District Representative Laura Jane Cohen announced in a statement that the Fairfax County Circuit Court issued an order today (Wednesday) dismissing a petition seeking her removal from office.

Vehicle location data startup chooses Tysons for corporate HQ

Tysons is now home to a technology startup that enables drivers to automatically pay for parking, gas and other vehicle-related expenses.

Citing expectations of rapid growth, Sheeva.AI opened its first corporate headquarters in the office building at 8609 Westwood Center Drive last Tuesday (Feb. 15), the company announced.

Residents Convicted in Local Armed Robbery — A federal jury convicted a D.C. man and woman Friday (Feb. 18) on charges of robbery, carjacking, and possession of a firearm during crimes of violence. Douglas Damon Whitley, 39, and Kendal Robinson, 35, allegedly robbed Peloton delivery van in a 7-11 parking lot in Fairfax on August 25, 2021.” [U.S. Attorney’s Office]

Police Civilian Review Panel Director Named — The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Steven Richardson as executive director of the panel charged with reviewing reports of police misconduct. A woman injured in a vehicle crash in Reston earlier this month has died, Fairfax County police announced today (Tuesday).

The crash occurred on Baron Cameron Avenue near the North Village Road intersection around 10:45 a.m. on Feb. 3, shutting down the avenue’s eastbound lanes.

Fairfax County leaders condemn anti-Semitic flyers found in Wolf Trap area

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors expressed solidarity with the local Jewish community today (Tuesday) after dozens of anti-Semitic flyers were found in a Wolf Trap neighborhood over the weekend.

Reiterating a statement released on social media yesterday (Monday), Chairman Jeff McKay characterized the flyers as a backlash to the county’s embrace of religious diversity during the board’s meeting this morning.
