Vienna’s Fourth of July celebration won’t be on July 4

The Town of Vienna’s Independence Day celebration will arrive a little early this year.

A staff shortage at the company that provides fireworks for the annual Fourth of July festivities led Vienna to reschedule the event for July 1 to avoid having to cancel it altogether, the town announced late Friday (June 3).

McLean man sentenced to 3 years in prison for $1.6M call center scam

A 33-year-old man from McLean will go to prison for three years after participating in a scam involving technical support call centers, Department of Justice prosecutors announced on Friday (June 3).

Bruhaspaty Prasad “conspired with several other individuals” to defraud more than 1,300 people, most of them elderly, out of $1.6 million between April 2016 and September 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Attacks by possibly rabid coyote in Springfield end with police shooting

A coyote reportedly bit multiple people in the Springfield area this weekend, including a police officer who shot it.

The Fairfax County Police Department says it received a report around 8 a.m. on Saturday (June 4) of three adults being bitten by a wild coyote in Lake Accotink Park. The animal also bit two dogs, police later confirmed.

Grill Kabob’s new Tysons location at Pike 7 Plaza to open in June

Grill Kabob is expanding its Tysons footprint beyond the mall food court.

With 17 years at Tysons Corner Center under its belt, the Afghan kabob chain is working on its first standalone location in the area at Pike 7 Plaza (8385 Leesburg Pike). An exact launch date hasn’t been set, but the restaurant will “definitely” be ready in June, co-owner Wais Shoja says.

McDonald’s at Cedar Park Shopping Center in Vienna is no more

The Town of Vienna is now down to just one McDonald’s.

The fast-food chain’s eatery in the Cedar Park Shopping Center (282 Cedar Lane) permanently closed earlier this week, leaving the town with only the drive-thru site at 544 Maple Avenue.

BREAKING: Woman charged with reckless driving after crashing into four pedestrians in Annandale

Fairfax County police have filed charges against a 41-year-old woman from Annandale who drove into four pedestrians on May 20, resulting in one person’s death.

Joana Konadu has been charged with reckless driving for failure to keep a vehicle under control, the FCPD announced today (Thursday).

JUST IN: Flood Watch in effect into Thursday evening for Fairfax County

McLean residents turned out in force yesterday (Wednesday) for the grand opening of Fairfax County’s newest Lidl — its first north of I-66.

Starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m., the 25,000-square-foot grocery store saw a steady stream of customers pack the parking lot at 1330 Chain Bridge Road, drawn by promises of giveaways and special deals.

JUST IN: Vehicle crash with fuel leak blocks Route 50 in West Falls Church

Eastbound Route 50 is completely closed in the West Falls Church area, as Fairfax County police and firefighters clean up a vehicle crash and fuel leak.

According to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, there was a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Westmoreland and Summerfield roads. A person with a minor injury has been transported to a hospital, department spokesperson William Delaney says.
