DEVELOPING: Herndon police seek multiple people in teen stabbing

A teen was stabbed reportedly by multiple people at a residence in Herndon this afternoon (Friday).

Police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Center Street around 3:32 p.m. after a woman reported that her 15-year-old son had been “stabbed in the chest” by three people, according to scanner traffic.

JUST IN: Frost Advisory issued for D.C. region

A Frost Advisory has been issued for Fairfax County, signaling an end to the mild weather that the D.C. region has seen so far this fall.

The advisory will be in effect from 2 to 9 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday), with temperatures expected to dip as low as 33 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents welcome long-awaited pedestrian beacon on Edsall Road

Years of advocacy have paid off for residents in Lincolnia’s Bren Mar area with the recent addition of flashing pedestrian beacons at a key intersection.

An estimated 50 to 60 community members gathered last Saturday (Oct. 18) to officially celebrate the beacons’ installation at a crosswalk on Edsall Road that connects dozens of homes to the Bren Mar swimming pool and tennis courts as well as Fairfax County’s Bren Mar Park.

Shutdown threatens SNAP funding for thousands of Fairfax residents

Affording groceries, already a challenge for many households in the D.C. region, could become an even greater obstacle next month for thousands of Fairfax County residents with the suspension of federal food benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, is expected to pause payments at the end of next week unless Congress and President Donald Trump resolve the budget standoff that has closed the federal government since Oct. 1.

With the holiday shopping season on the horizon, Tysons Corner Center is continuing to stay busy, welcoming a number of new retail stores in recent weeks and hinting at more still to come.

The clothing brand Reformation, which prides itself on its sustainable practices, is opening its doors this morning (Thursday) on the mall’s second floor at Unit E001U, near the Apple store and Nespresso.

Tysons retail visits now exceeding pre-pandemic levels, report finds

Retail activity was booming in Tysons for the first half of this year, surging past pre-pandemic levels, the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) found in a recent report.

Released last month, the retail-focused market report for the second quarter of 2025 offered some positive economic news for Fairfax County at a time when the federal government shutdown and rising unemployment have kept the larger D.C. region on edge.

Teacher behind Centreville HS abortion claims placed on leave

The Centreville High School teacher who alleged that a social worker had helped students obtain abortions in 2021 is now on paid leave.

Fairfax County Public Schools Director of Employee Relations William Fulton notified Zenaida Perez on Monday (Oct. 20) that she has been placed on paid administrative leave, effective immediately, after investigators released a report last week challenging the veracity of her claims.

Herndon launches community survey to identify housing needs

The Town of Herndon is seeking public feedback for a new plan to guide future housing development.

TPMA, a consultant hired by the town this spring, launched a community survey last Wednesday (Oct. 15) to get a better understanding of the current state of housing in Herndon and what residents of both Herndon and the wider D.C. region would like to see prioritized in the years to come.

Proposal to restore historic Wolf Trap house would enhance trails

A historic house in the Wolf Trap area that has previously served as a plantation home and an art studio could soon take on new life once again, thanks to the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Resident Curator Program.

An application submitted through the program this summer proposes to restore not only the vacant Lahey Lost Valley House at 9750 Brookmeadow Drive, but also the trails and parkland surrounding it.
