Teen charged with shooting at Mount Vernon Plaza that injured two men

A teen is in custody days after a shooting at Mount Vernon Plaza in Hybla Valley sent two men to the hospital.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with willfully discharging a firearm in a public place, causing injuries, yesterday (Thursday) after the Fairfax County Police Department identified him as the alleged suspect in the Sept. 29 shooting.

Nationals team pup to visit Reston Town Center for annual DogFest

The Washington Nationals have closed out their 2026 season, but the team’s official dog will stay plenty busy during the offseason, starting with a visit this weekend to Reston Town Center.

Natty will exchange the company of baseball players for local community members with a booth at the nonprofit Canine Companions’ annual DogFest Washington D.C. on Saturday (Oct. 3) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Herndon town manager fired after less than a year on the job

The Town of Herndon has parted ways with its top executive less than a year into his tenure.

The Herndon Town Council voted in a closed meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 29) to “end the employment of Town Manager Dan Hoffman, effective immediately,” the town announced on its Facebook page yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Onelife Fitness is officially heading to Tysons Galleria.

Months after it began feeling out the possibility of a facility in the mall, the Tysons-based fitness chain confirmed today that it will open a new flagship “wellness destination” in the former Saks Fifth Avenue storefront.

The nationwide chain of bakeries has a location “coming soon” to 7732E Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon Plaza, a corporate spokesperson confirmed to FFXnow.

Vacant Reston office buildings add to resident complaints of trespassing, vagrancy

At this time last year, hopes remained high that two long-vacant office buildings at a prominent Reston intersection would soon be gone, making way for new housing and retail.

Instead of watching that mixed-use development take shape, however, nearby residents find themselves still contending with an eyesore in a neighborhood that has reportedly become a magnet for trespassing, vandalism and other property issues.

Inova acquires medical office buildings, adding to Merrifield footprint

Inova Health System is making the jump from tenant to property owner at a pair of medical office buildings near its main Fairfax hospital campus.

The nonprofit health care provider has acquired the Willow Oaks Medical Campus at 8260 and 8280 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive in Merrifield for $97.5 million, the commercial real estate advisor Newmark announced yesterday (Wednesday).

Pedestrian killed in I-395 crash over Labor Day weekend identified

An Annandale man was killed over Labor Day weekend after being struck by an SUV driver while walking on I-395 in Lincolnia, the Virginia State Police says.

Troopers responded to the southbound lanes of I-395 near the 2-mile-marker at Edsall Road on Sept. 6 at 5:59 a.m. for the crash.

Police: SUV passenger shot last night on I-66 near Vienna

The Virginia State Police is investigating an apparent shooting that took place on I-66 last night (Tuesday) near the Nutley Street interchange outside Vienna.

First responders with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were sent at around 8:15 p.m. to a reported shooting in the highway’s eastbound lanes near the Nutley Street ramp, according to scanner traffic.

Tysons nearly doubles population since 2010, as more housing comes online

Tysons still has a steep hill to climb to reach its goal of 100,000 residents by 2050, but it continues to make progress in its evolution from a commuter hub to a home.

Since the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopted a comprehensive plan in 2010 setting that target, Tysons has come close to doubling its population from approximately 17,000 residents to 32,000 residents, the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) reported earlier this month.
