Cybersecurity company moves into new global HQ at Reston Station

A growing cybersecurity company recently made the leap from Herndon to Reston.

GuidePoint Security opened its new global headquarters in the distinctive office building at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza in Reston Station on June 3, a move that the company says followed “a period of record growth.”

At new mini-golf course in Lorton, players putt their way through art history

Artists at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton will soon unveil the entirety of their latest masterpiece: an 18-hole mini-golf course that doubles as an art history lesson.

Masterpiece Mini-Golf opened its first nine holes to the public on May 10, with the back half slated to be finished in time for a grand opening ceremony at 4 p.m. this Friday, June 13.

This week kicked off with a greeting from an unexpected furry face for some Herndon residents.

A black bear was spotted roaming the area around Alabama Drive and Hillwood Court north of Haley M. Smith Park this morning (Monday), the Herndon Police Department confirmed shortly before 9 a.m.

Initial design for Shreve Road shared-use path welcomed by Idylwood residents

Years after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Shreve Road, Idylwood residents got their first look at infrastructure changes that local transportation planners hope will make the corridor safer and more accessible.

At a community meeting on May 29, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) unveiled conceptual designs for a shared-use path on Shreve Road and improvements at the Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) intersection, where the roadway turns into Haycock Road after crossing the Falls Church City border.

South Block to replace fellow juice bar Robeks in Reston

South Block is coming to the Spectrum at Reston Town Center, taking the place of another longstanding juice shop.

The rapidly growing D.C.-area chain has applied for a building permit from Fairfax County to renovate the 1,234-square-foot space at 1835 Fountain Drive, which currently houses Robeks.

FCPD: Man charged with attempted rape reported in Woodlawn

A man from the Mount Vernon area is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly attacking a woman in Woodlawn last week.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Roxbury Court at 12:46 a.m. last Thursday (June 5) for a report of an abduction and attempted sexual assault.

Dominion Energy to remove dozens more trees along W&OD Trail

After reevaluating plans to clear more trees throughout the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail corridor in the spring, Dominion Energy is revving up its chainsaw once more.

The utility shared yesterday (Thursday) that its forestry team has “identified several areas” along the 45-mile trail in Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun counties where tree removals will be necessary to preserve the electrical grid.

Temperatures are warming, school is nearly out for the year, and a full slate of free, outdoor summer entertainment is coming to Fairfax County parks.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will kick off its annual Summer Entertainment Series tonight (Friday), with Grist Mill Park in Mount Vernon hosting the swing and jazz group Seth Kibel & The Kleztet at 7:30 p.m.

Report: Tysons economy steady to open 2025, but federal spending disruptions loom

The Tysons economy appeared to be heading in an encouraging direction to start 2025. Visitations and residential and retail occupancy rates were up, and office vacancies at least held steady instead of rising.

However, the impacts of federal spending and workforce cuts by the Trump administration have yet to emerge in the data tracked by the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA), which released its latest quarterly market report today (Thursday).

Reston Taco Bell appears ready to reopen soon

Reston’s new Taco Bell appears to be on the verge of reopening.

The fast-food restaurant at 11257 Roger Bacon Drive has been closed for months, as franchise owner Summerwood Corporation undertook a wholesale demolition and replacement of the existing building.
