The location at 11932 Democracy Drive in the town center has permanently closed, according to its website. The vacancy is near the location of Fogo de Chao, a new Brazilian steakhouse that is under construction.

The redevelopment of Downtown Herndon through a partnership between the Town of Herndon and Reston-based developer Comstock is temporarily on pause.

The project, which was expected to break ground nearly two years ago, could be on pause for up to two years, according to a statement in the town’s business community newsletter, published Wednesday afternoon (July 13). The town says the pause was the result of “increases in construction costs for the project.”

A dessert shop that promises to serve up messy, gooey and sticky treats has officially opened in Fair Oaks Mall.

Messy Treatz opened over the weekend, bringing an assortment of “Messy jars,” “Messy cupcakes” and drinks to the space formerly occupied by Godiva Chocolatier at 11847U Fair Oaks Mall.

A dog was rescued after a fire in the Frying Pan area of Fairfax County broke out Wednesday morning (July 13), the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reported yesterday (Thursday)

The fire — which was mostly controlled by two sprinklers in the apartment on the 2300 block of Rolling Fork Circle — was caused when combustible items near the burner of the electric stove caught fire, according to fire investigators.

The business, run by longtime Herndon resident Omer Are, was recognized by TripAdvisor as this year’s Travelers’ Choice Award winner for fun and games.

The Town of Herndon is seeking up to an additional $22.1 million in state funding for the future extension of Worldgate Drive.

Reston Strong, a local volunteer-run advocacy organization, is commemorating the 100th day of its Neighbors in Tents campaign to address homelessness in Fairfax County.

On Tuesday, the organization marked the 100th day of unhoused residents staying in a temporary tent community in front of the North County Government building. The tents were set up this spring as an alternative after the county’s hypothermia and COVID-19 emergency shelters wound down.

This year, Justice High School in Lake Barcroft has nearly 200 more students than it was designed to handle — an overcrowding issue that has driven plans to expand the school.

The Fairfax County School Board is seeking to add two buildings to the nearly 21-acre site at 3301 Peace Valley Lane. The county’s planning commission will decide whether to recommend approval of the project after a public hearing tonight (Wednesday).
