Travel on Van Buren Street will soon become much smoother for Herndon residents and other commuters.

The Town of Herndon will break ground tomorrow (Friday) on a major project to update the intersection at Van Buren Street and Herndon Parkway.

Major updates to the intersection of Elden Street and Monroe Street have neared substantial completion.

At a Herndon Town Council meeting last night (Tuesday), Town Manager Bill Ashton said the project is mostly complete. Signals have been installed and are expected to be fully functional in the coming days.

Pulte Homes wants to replace three office buildings built in the early 1980s on Sunset Hills Road with a new residential development.

The Georgia-based company submitted an application to Fairfax County on March 16 to build 100 multi-family residential units and 90 stacked for-sale townhouses at 11111 Sunset Hills Road.

In an aggressive move, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday (Tuesday) to amp up its affordable housing goals.

Through a motion introduced by Chairman Jeff McKay and Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust, the board set a new goal of 10,000 affordable housing units by 2034. The previous target, set in 2019, was 5,000 new units in 15 years.

Reston Association’s Board of Directors is contemplating three options for the future of Shadowood Recreation Area, an aging facility with a 20-meter pool that has been shuttered for more than two years.

RA’s Park and Recreation Advisory Committee formally recommended in January that RA reopen the pool after a major renovation effort. But in previous meetings, board members suggested refurbishments — far less extensive than those recommended by PRAC — were more appropriate.
