(Updated on March 3 to add additional quote) The long-delayed 11.4-mile Silver Line extension to Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun County will not open until this summer.

Last month, the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) maintained that trains would run this spring, but at a Tuesday meeting with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, transportation officials said they anticipate a summer 2022 opening.

Authorities have released the identity of a 59-year-old man who was killed in a Lorton townhouse fire on Feb. 26.

Charles Ngeh was in the bedroom of the townhouse in the 9100 block of Aspenpark Court when the fire broke out.

Another building is slated to go up as part of Dulles Station, a 63-acre, mixed-use project near the Innovation Center Metro Station.

Developer DSVO Dulles is seeking Fairfax County’s approval to build a 510-unit, 525,000-square-foot apartment building with ground-floor retail, according to a Feb. 22 application submitted to the county.

The Herndon Town Council is considering its first pay increase in nearly 15 years.

If the proposal is approved, the next town council would see its annual pay switch from $4,000 per council member to $10,000 and change from $6,000 to $12,000 for mayor.

More changes could be on the horizon, as Taco Bell proposes to rebuild its current location at 11257 Roger Bacon Drive with a more modern restaurant with an additional drive-thru lane.

A major residential project by Lennar Corp. that has been years in the making has been approved for the Penn Daw area.

The owners of the 7.4-acre property — which has 16 parcels owned by Penn Daw Properties and Michael Strassburg — hope to redevelop five single-family homes and a commercial building with up to 46 stacked townhouses, 35 townhouses and a 385-unit apartment building that would stand up to seven stories tall.

A new development of four-story townhomes near the Herndon Metro station is slated for a summer opening.

Reston Arboretum, a development by Pulte Homes, will feature 40 townhomes with rooftop terraces near the intersection of Sunrise Valley Drive and Milburn Lane in Reston.

For years, Fairfax County officials have conceded that county services in the Kingstowne area are scattered and its facilities small and outdated.

The county hopes that a multi-million-dollar project for a new government campus and library will help shift that narrative.
