New Fairfax County ordinance requires drivers to stop, rather than yield, for pedestrians

A new ordinance being considered by the Board of Supervisors could require drivers to be more careful around pedestrians.

The new ordinance aligns Fairfax County with a 2023 Code of Virginia change requiring drivers to stop — rather than yield — for pedestrians crossing in the driver’s lane, in an adjacent lane, or approaching the driver’s lane.

Registration opens for walking tours around Reston

Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney seeking protective order after alleged harassment and threats

Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano is seeking a protective order against a man allegedly making threats against him and his family, WJLA first reported.

The man, whose name was redacted, was prosecuted by Descano’s office for other incidents of harassment and violating protective orders.

Firefighters say they ‘Wiehle Like’ new pedestrian bridge at Wiehle Avenue

Firefighters at Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Station 25 shared a cheeky message welcoming the new bridge at the Washington and Old Dominion Trail.

“We Wiehle like this new bridge,” said a note on the message sign outside the fire station.

Fairfax driver charged with felony hit and run in Vienna

(Updated 4/16) A 30-year-old Fairfax man was arrested last week for a felony hit and run and driving on a revoked operator’s license after a crash in Vienna.

The incident occurred last week around 7:49 a.m. on April 8 at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Pleasant Street.

After 18 years, Vienna restaurant Bazin’s on Church closing this month

Vienna restaurants Bazin’s on Church and Bazin’s Next Door (111 Church Street) will close later this month after the restaurant space was sold to new owners.

After 18 years, owner Julie Bazin said she and her husband were looking forward to traveling and spending time with family and friends, while new ownership takes over the location.
