West Falls Church, Tysons restaurants make semifinals of James Beard Awards

A longstanding fine dining establishment in West Falls Church near Merrifield and a rising star in the Tysons culinary scene are both representing Fairfax County this year in the semifinals of the prestigious James Beard Awards.

The only Virginia eatery recognized in a nationwide category, 2941 Restaurant (2941 Fairview Park Drive) was named a semifinalist for “Outstanding Restaurant” by the James Beard Foundation, which announced competitors for its 2024 Restaurant and Chef Awards yesterday (Wednesday).

VIDA Fitness to open gym with swimming pool this spring in Reston Station

Vida Fitness is expected to open its flagship facility in Reston in early May, a company spokesperson tells FFXnow.

The facility is slated to open at Reston Row, the newest district that is part of Comstock’s Reston Station development at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station.

A new Uyghur restaurant is bringing some new flavors to the Town of Herndon.

Bostan Uyghur Cuisine, which also has a location in Arlington, quietly opened its doors in November at 1141 Elden Street.

McLean Community Center to host free festival celebrating Lunar New Year

The Year of the Rabbit is about to give way to the Year of the Dragon.

To welcome the Lunar New Year, which will officially begin on Feb. 10, the McLean Community Center is inviting the public to a free Year of the Dragon Festival and a show by the New York-based Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company on Sunday, Feb. 4.

Polar dip for charity returns to Lake Anne in Reston next month

A Tysons-based organization is bringing a polar dip to Lake Anne Plaza in Reston.

The Kiwanis Club of Tysons plans to host the event on Feb. 10 at Lake Anne Village Plaza (1609 Washington Plaza North) to raise funds for Reston-area organizations. The event is organized in partnership with the Lake Anne Washington Plaza Merchants Association.

Cinnamon lovers can soon rejoice as a cinnamon roll shop prepares to open in Herndon.

Cinnaholic is set for a grand opening at 2451 Centreville Road in Suite 20 on Feb. 9, according to Jessica Papa, a representative for the Herndon location.
