McLean’s Spring Hill Elementary is one of four schools statewide to have been honored as Exemplary High Performing Schools.

The U.S. Department of Education announced the recipients Sept. 23 as part of the National Blue-Ribbon School program.


The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors are slated to hold an Oct. 22 public hearing to discuss extending the lease of space in a county-owned property in Merrifield to Inova Health Care Services.

The 5-acre parcel at 8221 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive is home to the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health, a five-story, 160,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2015. It primarily houses operations of the Community Services Board (CSB) and county government’s Diversion First program.


Three Northern Virginia students were honored for academic prowess recently by the McLean area branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Amazon is looking to add an industrial park near Dulles International Airport to its network of Northern Virginia data centers.

Amazon Data Services has applied for air pollution control permits from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to allow data center facilities at 13860 and 13876 Redskin Drive in Renaissance Technology Park, a warehouse complex just east of Route 28 in the Floris area of Herndon.

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts woman accused of operating a high-end brothel network with wealthy and prominent clients in that state and Fairfax County is planning to change her plea to guilty in federal court Friday, according to court documents.


Different portions of McLean’s popular Clemyjontri Park will close in phases next week to allow for repairs.

Contractors hired by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) will arrive at the park on Monday (Sept. 30) to conduct maintenance on the playground equipment. Work is expected to wrap up next Friday (Oct. 4), if the weather cooperates.


A combined basketball and futsal court is set to open next Thursday, Oct. 3 at Stratton Woods Park (2431 Fox Mill Road) in Reston.

Construction on the court began in August. The $229,000 project is being supported by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), Volkswagen Group of America and the Great Outdoors Fund, a nonprofit that aims to expand access to recreational amenities.


If you nearly get swiped by a turning car while walking across a street in Fairfax County, there’s a good chance that you or another community member has had a similar experience in that same spot before, newly released survey data indicates.

The inaugural “Near Miss/Dangerous Location” summary report from the Fairfax chapter of Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets (NOVA FSS) found that 90% of the incidents recorded by pedestrians and cyclists since 2020 were recurring events — a higher rate than in Arlington (82%) or Alexandria (74%), the two other jurisdictions analyzed by the volunteer-run nonprofit.
