Man Behind Connolly Staff Assault Enters Insanity Plea — “Xuan-Kha Tran Pham appeared in court Monday and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity after the attack in [Rep. A developer is charting a new future for the Lake Fairfax Business Center, but it will not include the home of the “Quad God.”

SkateQuest, the indoor rink where world figure skating champion and George Mason University student Ilia Malinin trains, is one of several buildings slated to remain as part of a plan to revitalize the Reston office park with housing, new retail and perhaps, an elementary school.


Herndon is planning a historical marker that will delve into the town’s history of segregation, particularly in connection to the Herndon Fortnightly Library (768 Center Street).

Town staff discussed the proposal with the Herndon Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (HDEIC) at a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Woman Grazed by Bullet in Franconia — “A suspect was taken into custody after what police are calling a ‘domestic-related shooting’ where a woman was grazed by a bullet in her head Friday night. Man Convicted in Sexual Assault Case Arrested by ICE — “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a convicted sex offender in Annandale on Aug. 19…Fairfax County Police arrested Veizaga on May 3 for the sexual assault of a child aged 13 or 14.” He was later convicted of a misdemeanor in the case, and the court suspended his six-month jail sentence. As Fairfax County leaders explore adding new sources of revenue, an advocacy campaign has emerged in opposition to a potential tax on prepared food.

Though many Northern Virginia localities already have meals taxes, a nonprofit called Fairfax Families and Workers Against the Food Tax that publicly launched last week argues the tax would be unpopular with Fairfax County residents, who narrowly rejected the idea at the ballot box twice before.


A woman who runs a home daycare in Bailey’s Crossroads is facing assault charges after allegedly restraining two children with tape.

Police began investigating Sumy Shah, a 47-year-old Alexandria resident, on Aug. 1 after officers got a report of an assault in the 3600 block of Paul Street, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.


A construction vehicle driver died after crashing on I-66 in Idylwood this morning (Friday).

Virginia State Police troopers were dispatched to I-66 West at at the Capital Beltway (I-495) around 7:51 a.m. for the single-vehicle crash, which was initially described by police as a two-vehicle crash with “at least one injury.”

New Covid Vaccines Approved — “The Food and Drug Administration approved new mRNA coronavirus vaccines Thursday, clearing the way for shots manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna to start hitting pharmacy shelves and doctor’s offices within a week.” [Washington Post]

A man charged with killing a Reston couple in 2017 died this morning after being taken to a hospital from Fairfax County’s jail.

Nicholas Giampa, now 24, was found “unresponsive” in his cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center around 1:58 a.m., prompting a deputy to announce “a medical emergency,” according to posts from the Fairfax County Police Department and Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.
