(Updated at 10 a.m. on 12/13/2023) A community-oriented utility company that offers chilled water for air-conditioning has iced out over 600 customers in Reston.

Reston Lake Anne Air-conditioning Corporation (RELAC) announced yesterday (Monday) that it plans to halt its cooling system after this year, citing increased electrical costs and the refusal of some customers to pay their utility bills.


A man who kicked off this week with a 21-hour standoff with police in Bailey’s Crossroads is facing assault and abduction charges.

Additional charges are possible against Brian Ramos, 21, for his killing of a cat during the barricade, which began shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 10) and concluded after 1 p.m. yesterday (Monday), the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Wizards and Capitals Could Move to Virginia — “A group of Virginia state lawmakers voted Monday in favor of a deal to bring the Washington Capitals and Wizards to a new arena in Northern Virginia, according to four people with knowledge of the situation.” The plan, which still needs to be approved by the General Assembly and local officials, would move the hockey and basketball teams to a facility in Alexandria’s Potomac Yard. A plan to redevelop the site of the Franconia Governmental Center into an affordable housing development won’t move forward until the new year.

At a meeting last Tuesday (Dec. 5), the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors deferred a decision to transfer the nearly 3-acre property at 6121 Franconia Road to the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA).


A driver has been hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries from a three-vehicle crash in Burke.

Police officers and emergency medical services were dispatched to Fairfax County Parkway at Burke Centre Parkway around 8:53 a.m. for a crash with a trapped person, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Several Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units were dispatched at 9:15 a.m. to the house fire on Ridgeview Circle near Rosamora Court, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Reston Association is seeking candidates for its 2024 Board of Directors’ election.

Four seats are open for the election, which will take place in March. Specifically, two at-large director seats are open, along with the South Lakes district director and the apartment owners’ representative.
