(Updated at 6 p.m.) Tysons got an unexpected visitor this weekend in the form of an apparently solo black bear.
The animal was spotted ambling along the Boyd Pointe Way sidewalk outside the Adaire Apartments in a video shared on Twitter last night by FOX5 reporter Angie Goff. She said it was seen on Sunday (Oct. 30) at 1521 Boyd Pointe Way.
Dense Fog Advisory in Effect — Fairfax County and the rest of the D.C. area are under a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m. The National Weather Service says visibility could be limited to a quarter mile or less, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions. [NWS]
Metro Starts Fare Evasion Crackdown — “Metro Transit Police officers will begin issuing fare evasion citations on Tuesday, November 1, following a monthlong awareness and warning campaign. Citations with associated fines may be issued to anyone jumping fare gates, improperly using emergency gates, or not tapping fare boxes on Metrobuses.” [WMATA]
(Updated at 7:35 p.m.) The race to finalize voter rolls for next week’s midterm elections may come down to the wire after Fairfax County received thousands of new applications today (Monday).
A computer error that affected Virginia’s voter registration system earlier this summer resulted in the state sending another 11,000 applications to the Fairfax County Office of Elections, which says it “will do whatever it takes” to process the documents in time for Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The Vienna Town Council says a plan for new duplexes shows promise but isn’t quite ready for approval yet.
At a meeting on Oct. 24, the council said there are lingering concerns about the lot coverage — how much of a site is built on by a development — for the Vienna Courts project. Developer BFR Construction has proposed a set of duplexes at the Vienna Courts offices 127-133 Park Street NE. The project would replace four office buildings with 14 two-family dwellings.
A man was shot and killed in an apartment at Skyline Towers near Bailey’s Crossroads yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, prompting a momentary shelter-in-place order for residents.
Police are now seeking the public’s help to identify three men spotted on surveillance footage who were allegedly seen leaving the apartment complex’s south tower “within about 10 to 15 minutes” of the shooting, Fairfax County Police Department Second Lt. James Curry said at a briefing.
Nutley Street Roundabout to Open in Vienna — “Beginning during the early morning hours on or about Monday, October 31, the first of two roundabouts on Nutley Street at I-66 will open to traffic as part of the redesigned I-66/Nutley Street Interchange. Former Commonwealth’s Attorney Dies — “Former Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert F. Horan Jr., who prosecuted virtually every high-profile criminal case in Virginia’s largest county for 40 years — from the ‘Roy Rogers murders’ in 1976, to the abduction of 5-year-old Melissa Brannen in 1991, to the D.C. sniper Lee Boyd Malvo in 2003 — died Friday at his home in the Clifton area. Four cars were stolen early Wednesday morning in the Rose Hill neighborhood, according to police.
The cars were taken near South Van Dorn Street and Franconia Road. A resident reported that a group of men attempted to enter several vehicles in the area around 5 a.m.
The demolition of vacated Lake Anne Fellowship House will begin in the first week of November, according to Reston Association.
The work will continue through January of next year of the former fellowship house.
