Just as some critics had anticipated, efforts to extend Express Lanes in Maryland from the American Legion Bridge to Interstate 270 hit a major glitch March 10 when contractor Transurban pulled out of negotiations.

The 20 million or more passengers traveling through Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in any given year have James Wilding to thank for the doors still being open.

Fairfax County’s real-estate-tax rate won’t increase this year, but homeowners facing average assessment increases of nearly 7 percent will have to fork out about $520 more unless county supervisors eventually agreed to cut the rate.

Fairfax County officials plan to purchase a property at 819 Swinks Mill Road in McLean, then demolish the home and impervious surfaces there and restore the natural floodplain.

It came as no surprise, but Fairfax County’s jobless rate joined the rest of Northern Virginia in ticking upward to start the year.
