Feb 11 Sully District Community Advisory Committee

CACs enhance communication between residents and the Fairfax County Police Department and offer residents a chance to dialogue with members of their local police districts. Members are kept informed about significant safety matters in their neighborhoods and are encouraged to bring any issues or questions to the attention of local police commanders.

School Resource Officers (SROs) are sworn police officers assigned to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) through a collaborative partnership between FCPS and the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), formalized by a 2018 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Their primary mission is to enhance school safety while fostering a positive and supportive learning environment through mentorship, relationship-building, and collaboration with school staff.

SROs assist with crisis response and emergency planning and contribute to educational and prevention-based programming; however, they do not enforce student discipline, which remains the responsibility of school administrators. Instead, SROs focus on preventing student involvement in the juvenile justice system by utilizing Alternative Accountability and Restorative Justice practices, grounded in an understanding of students’ cognitive development and behavioral needs. Within the Sully District, SROs provide coverage to two high schools, one alternative school, and three middle schools, with each middle school also supporting nearby elementary schools.
