LLI/NOVA Forum on Int’l Trade, Tariffs & Trade Deficits: Facts & Fiction

The Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia, https://llinova.org/, an educational group for adults over 50, will hold its next in-person Forum on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Little River United Church of Christ, 8410 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA. The guest will be James Wallar, a former U.S. trade negotiator.

James Wallar worked for the U.S. Treasury for 32 years, and was part of the official U.S. delegation negotiating the Northern American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Tokyo Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations and the longest, most comprehensive and final Uruguay Round, which established the World Trade Organization. After retiring from the U.S. Government, he was an economic consultant, focused on Southeast Asia. Wallar will address the issues associated with the many twists and turns of trade policy, including the misconception that exports are good and imports are bad.
