The Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet presents “The Snow Queen”

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet (KMAB) presents “The Snow Queen,” based on an original fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Adapted into a ballet with original choreography by KMAB Director Mark Mejia, the story follows the journey of a brave girl named Gerda, who sets out to rescue her best friend, Kai, after he is bewitched and taken away by the Snow Queen. The story begins with an evil mirror created by a troll that distorts reality, and when shards of it get lodged in Kai’s heart and eye, he becomes cold and cruel. He is eventually abducted by the Snow Queen to her icy palace in the far north. Gerda, undeterred by obstacles and dangers, embarks on a long and magical journey, encountering various characters who help her along the way. Her love and persistence ultimately break the Snow Queen’s spell, freeing Kai and restoring his heart, and together they return home, transformed by their adventure.

Performances are on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, June 8 at 2:00 pm at Meridian High School, 121 Mustang Alley, Falls Church, VA 22043. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at https://www.kintzmejiaballet.org/. For information, call 703-501-4319 or email info@kintzmejiaballet.org.
